This Is Not The End

Approaching the eviction deadline issued by King’s College London the KCL Stands4Justice Gaza Solidarity Encampment have decided to decamp after 68 days.

We launched on May 13th in solidarity with the global student movement, using our voices and presence to protest Israel’s genocidal assault against Gaza. Collectively we challenged institutional complicity in Israel’s crimes.

We started this encampment with 5 demands:

1) Condemn Israeli war crimes

2) Boycott all Israeli Academic Institutions

3) Divest from all corporations complicit in the occupation and genocide

4) Pledge to rebuild the Higher Education sector in Gaza

5) Safeguard our right to protest.

Following several rounds of negotiations and progress on multiple demands, on 16th July KCL issued an eviction notice to the encampment.

During the 68 days, the encampment has been a base for a community of students, staff and alumni to organise, learn, express solidarity and hold our university to account. The support from all sections of King’s and non-King’s community has been overwhelming and has sustained our movement throughout.

However in line with the national trend, KCL too stifled its students’ rights of freedom of speech and assembly during an ongoing genocide. The university threatened the encampment students with non-academic misconduct and with a possession order if they did not to comply. Although the camp is leaving, our work is not done and the fight continues. Any progress the students have made deserves celebration.

The community this encampment has created is stronger than ever and we remind the university that

THE STUDENTS UNITED WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED

We are so thankful for the entire community for supporting us in various ways. This is NOT THE END.

LONG LIVE THE STUDENT INTIFADA!
