Dr Maisara Al Rayyes

We promised to honour our martyrs and demanded a scholarship in the name of Dr Maisara Al Rayyes. With the encampment and the pressure from the student movement and UCU, KCL has announced a Dr Maisara Alrayyes scholarship which entails 4 Masters scholarships for Palestinian students every year for the next 5 years with the program planned to be extended.

We held a people’s memorial at Guy’s campus to honour Dr Maisara and were joined by his widow Laura, his only surviving family member and sister Fatma, the Palestinian ambassador Husam Zomlot and several of his close friends who spoke movingly and powerfully of their memories of Maisara. A Tatreez portrait made by Maisara’s sister was also installed and revealed in New Hunts House with the accompanying text by the university acknowledging that he was killed during an Israeli strike and that his body remains under the rubble a year later.

This has only strengthened our resolve to keep his memory alive and keep fighting until all our demands are met.
