KCL Attempt to Shut Down Camp

Following our second negotiation meeting with KCL management, we were sent two letters:

A core member of the negotiations team has been excluded from all King’s campuses, without any evidence provided towards the decision. This exclusion didn’t happen through the normal route, as the vice-president of operations “exercised his emergency powers.” The incident on the 11th of June, where staff and security became physically violent towards students, was cited. So far, no staff members have experienced repercussions for their actions.

The second letter was a notice from the University ordering us to remove our tents at the encampment for the weekend in order to hide our protest for the 6000 new students they expect at the open day tomorrow.

Both actions demonstrate contempt towards the encampment from the university management and a lack of “good will” to take such actins immediately after negotiations. The issues mentioned in these letters were not mentioned or discussed in our negotiations meeting displaying a lack of transparency from KCL.

KCL management have failed to safeguard their own students and are now inhibiting their right to protest!

We urgently need your support in a show of numbers to make it clear to the university that we will not be intimidated by their tactics to divide us, and we will continue until their complicity in occupation and apartheid comes to an end.
