[{"body":"Dear King's College London Council, \n\n I am writing as a deeply concerned student, profoundly troubled by the recent incident involving Dr. Rana Baker and the unauthorised recording of a seminar. This event has shattered my sense of safety and privacy, and I feel compelled to express my grave concerns. \n\n It has come to my attention that a student illegally recorded a seminar and shared the footage without consent, resulting in it being published by various media outlets, including The Jewish Chronicle, Israel Hayom, and The Jerusalem Post. This is a massive violation of trust and privacy, and it deeply disturbs me that an institution I hold in high regard has allowed such a breach to occur. \n\n As a student, I am often hesitant to openly share my views in class, knowing that my words could be misrepresented or recorded without my consent. The chilling impact of this event on my ability to participate in seminars and discussions is immense. How can I contribute meaningfully to academic debates if I live in fear of my words being secretly recorded and used against me? This incident has made me feel unsafe and unsupported by the very institution that should be protecting my right to learn and express myself freely. \n\n I am also deeply troubled by the university’s response—or lack thereof. Instead of taking immediate action to safeguard the privacy of its students, KCL failed to inform those affected and did not take steps to prevent the unlawful dissemination of the recording. The failure to act decisively has left me feeling disillusioned, as though my rights and safety are secondary to the institution’s interests. \n\n This case, combined with the adoption of the IHRA definition of antisemitism, which equates criticism of Israel with antisemitism, only further entrenches a hostile environment where academic freedom and Palestinian solidarity are at risk. The inaction surrounding Dr. Rana Baker's case and the failure to hold those responsible accountable have made me question the university’s commitment to the values it claims to uphold. \n\n I implore the council to take swift action to address this violation and ensure the protection of privacy and academic freedom for all members of the KCL community. We need stronger protections against unauthorised recordings, clear disciplinary measures, and a firm commitment to safeguarding free expression. \n\n Sincerely, \n A Concerned Student", "email":"karam.weigert@kcl.ac.uk", "subject":"testing"}]
